Soils Technician – Ground Investigations

We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Soils Technician to support our existing specialist team.

The Role

Based in our Arundel office, you must be eager to learn and want to progress within the Geotechnical and subsidence industry. You will be working alongside a Team Leader with experience, who will coach you in all aspects of the investigations.

The main responsibility of this role will be as a site operative working as part of a team. The work is manual, predominantly site based and will require you visiting locations throughout the UK. Attention to detail is required to understand and carry out clients’ instructions, you must have a high level of communication skill and be a team player.

The works will include operating a variety of specialist drilling equipment (handheld and tracked dynamic sampler, concrete coring, augers etc), hand digging foundation inspection pits, logging soil and rock samples amongst other tasks. Attention to detail is paramount as the information retrieved from site is to enable the Engineers and their team to issue samples for testing and subsequently produce factual and interpretative reports for the client and insurers. Our dedicated teams of technicians all play a vital role in ensuring that our high-quality services are delivered to budget and on time.

Due to the nature of the business the successful candidate will be required to work on various sites Nationwide. You will need to be adaptable and should have the ability to work to tight deadlines. Occasional night or weekend working and overnight stays away may be required, therefore availability and flexibility with regards to working hours is essential to the role.

We are looking for an ambitious, hardworking, dedicated individual, with great teamwork and communication skills. Reliability is imperative, and there is a requirement to be organised and practically minded.

Day to day responsibilities

• To excavate trial pits and boreholes

• Carry out CCTV drain surveys

• Log soils descriptions and create clear site plans

• Complete reinstatements of disturbed areas

• Ensuring all paperwork and videos are uploaded daily

• Ensure all equipment is kept clean and tidy

• Ensure the vans are kept in a clean and safe condition

Required Skills

• Full clean UK valid manual driving license. This is imperative as the role will involve a lot of driving.

• Interest and enthusiasm for the outdoor environment and geology.

• Sound communication and personal effectiveness skills.

• Inquisitive, investigative mind, observant and diligent in ensuring accuracy of data recording.

• Ability to work as part of a team.

• Experience in ground investigation industry is useful long with any relevant qualifications (e.g. CSCS scheme / SSSTS / NVQ Land Drilling).

• Experience of various drilling and investigation techniques, CAT scanning and hand digging would be beneficial.

• A good level of fitness is required as the work is physical and will involve manual handling.

Mentoring and support will be provided by the Team Leader, fellow technicians and engineering staff with the opportunity for continued learning whilst working. An opportunity to study for an NVQ in Land Drilling will be available for the right candidate on completion of a probation period in the company.

Salary package

The competitive remuneration package will depend upon qualifications and experience, and will include:

• Starting salary during probationary period £23,795 for initial 40hr week – to be reviewed after 3 months

• Additional site hours over 40hr week paid at standard hourly rate as applicable

• Overtime as applicable for night and weekend working

• Allowance for overnight subsistence

• Use of fleet vehicle for site works

• Pension Scheme

• Minimum of 20 days annual leave + Statutory Bank Holidays

Junior / Trainee Building Surveyor (Construction Assessor)

Are you ready for a fresh challenge? Things are getting busy and we need a new member to join our team.

Constructive Evaluation are a multidisciplinary specialist Material Testing, Structural Investigation and Site Investigation consultancy based on the South Coast providing investigation services to the construction industry throughout the UK. We are currently looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Building Surveyor to join our existing team.

Position Description

The role will include the preparation and delivery of building surveys, intrusive site investigation strategies, concrete and building defect analysis and testing, providing information for conclusive and detailed report production.

Using specialised tools and assisting the site operatives this role is frequently based on site. Our dedicated teams of drillers, engineers, materials surveyors, technicians and laboratory staff all play a vital role in ensuring that these services are delivered to quality, on budget and on time.

The successful candidate will primarily require a Construction background but knowledge of Building Surveying / Civil Engineering would be beneficial.  You should also be willing to travel, necessitating a full driving licence.

This niche role requires focus on structural / building defect assessment and pathology. Any other traditional construction knowledge and surveying skills would be of benefit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking surveying works on site, supporting staff, preparing risk assessments and methodologies, recording and providing findings for detailed reports.

Required Skills

The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate a minimum of 1 - 3 years field experience in surveying or construction.

The applicant should be able to show experience of site works, appropriate sampling techniques and investigative surveying methodologies. Applicants will be trained and mentored in the production of factual and interpretive reports.

A strong work and team ethic are essential; the applicant should be adaptable and capable of managing their own workload to produce a consistent and quality service to our clients' requirements. Strong written and spoken communication skills are also considered of paramount importance. The applicant will be supported and mentored in their role by senior staff with training provided as required.

The job role will involve travel to investigation sites and applicants should hold a clean UK manual driving license and have the right to work in the UK. Transport to site will be provided. Applicants should be prepared to attend training courses and work in a variety of environments, including Road / Rail projects. Unsociable hours working such as night shift and weekend working may be required.

Senior Underground Utility Surveyor

Due to continued growth and success Constructive Evaluation; in collaboration with our sister company Landmark Surveys, are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underground Utility Surveyor to join our team based in Sussex.

The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Underground Utility Surveyor to join our team. As a Senior Surveyor, you will be responsible for overseeing and conducting underground utility mapping activities, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications. You will also provide guidance and mentorship to junior surveyors, ensuring the successful completion of projects. Duties will include:

• Conducting underground utility surveys using various surveying equipment and techniques

• Preparing and review survey reports, maps, and legal descriptions

• Coordinating with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure surveying requirements are met

• Providing technical expertise and guidance to junior surveyors

• Managing surveying projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, and budgeting

• Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards

• Maintaining accurate records of survey data and documentation

Required Skills

• Extensive experience in underground utility surveying, including the use of radiodetection equipment and GPR.

• Proficient in the use of surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS receivers, and data collectors

• Strong knowledge of underground utility principles, practices, and techniques

• Excellent understanding of legal requirements related to underground utility surveying

• Ability to interpret engineering plans and specifications

• Proficient in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software for drafting and mapping purposes

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
