Structural Investigation
Structural investigation forms a major part our building surveying workload. The determination of how a structure was built is the prime purpose of structural investigation, with defects analysis secondary.
With plots for new builds becoming ever more expensive, developers are increasingly looking to give ageing building stock a new lease of life. Common schemes to achieve this include adding additional floors, increasing thermal capacity and change of use. Regardless of the reason, you will need to determine the structural capacity of the existing structure.
The Structural Engineer overseeing any works will need to quantify the existing load potential of floors, columns and beams. They may also need to know what the existing materials are, the type, size, the tensile and compressive strength, condition and fixing details.
Even with original design drawings to hand, the structural detailing and composition can only be reliably confirmed by structural investigation.
Whatever your building type from bridges to listed buildings, houses to nuclear power stations, Constructive Evaluation’s building surveyors have been involved in the structural investigation of a great variety of building types and are able to offer both intrusive and non-destructive testing to determine the existing construction form. We have been engaged for works on the Parliamentary Estate, Royal Household, many blue-chip companies, local authorities, statutory undertakers, Architects, Structural Engineers and the like so we are ideally placed in the construction industry to fulfil your structural investigation requirements.
